About

Notice the apparel of the English rider is much different from the Western Rider

I started horseback riding, English horseback riding, not western, about 2 or 3 years into our marriage. I was always in love with horses. Many of my first memories were horses…and dogs. I always had dogs after I married, and then the time came to make my horseback riding dream come true.

Being the person I am, I delved into it full force. When I do something, 1000%. So, I read and read and read all the information I could. And, I dragged my poor hubby to many of our local horse shows.

I remember when I had my first lesson, but, before I get into that part, there is one thing you need to know. I am afraid of big dogs, but I own 2, it used to be 3. I am afraid of walking beside a horse, or being in a stall with one, but, I wanted to take riding lessons. Horses were my dream.

When I compelled my girlfriend into joining me, we went for our first lesson. And, the very first thing the instructor did was lock us into a stall. Man, that was tough. But, I loved everything about horses, even the things I was afraid of. The first time i sat on a horse was frightening but exciting.

I will never forget that feeling. I did feel comfortable on a horse; like I belonged in the saddle. I had a talent for balancing in the saddle, for the feel of the horses motions and movements. And, I felt at home on a horse.

Soon I changed riding stables. I had an amazing new instructor. And that’s how my few years into horseback riding and amateur horseback jumping started. I even had a seminar with Ian Millar, Ian Millar, (born January 6, 1947) is a Canadian show jumping world champion and Olympic silver medalist.. It was awesome. He taught us, he lectured us (It was a one day event), then we all rode for him, one at a time, and he critiqued us. He complimented me when we were demonstrating how we could jump. That was cool.

Anyways, I won many ribbons in my amateur jumping days. I have to admit it, I was good at it :) I loved it, totally. But, after a few years, life got in the way. But, now I am ready to go again.

I remember at the time I was constantly looking to learn about riding. i am a student by nature, and love research and studying. I didn’t have the internet, like today. Today it is easier to get the information you want.

That’s me below, loving it all!
